The Quaker of the Opera in pictures.
Yesterday I got to do my first “Super Presentation” (as Michaela calls them) for Survey of American Literature I. Our group decided to present on the journal of John Woolman, a Quaker who lived in America during the time leading up to the Revolution. Instead of doing a boring presentation, we decided to go all out and make ours into a musical titled The Quaker of the Opera. We had a blast!
We divided Woolman’s life into stages: The Pious Child (Annie, who presented on Quakers), Bird-killing Kid (Sydney, who presented Woolman’s biography), Rebellious Teenager (Me, I presented an analysis of his journal), Shopkeeper (Karen, who presented a historical background), and Pastor (Ludwhig, who looked at Woolman’s other works). We all had costumes to match the aspects of Woolman’s life we portrayed, and each member of the group sang a parody of a well-known song while presenting their section.
I had a lot of fun with my “costume,” as you can see from the pictures. We may have exaggerated just a tad on what a rebellious Quaker looked like…
Dr. Coppinger said it was in the top 5 best presentations he’s ever seen, and just maybe even better than Bolt and Shroud’s presentations when they were here. Wow! Quite the compliment!
