Save Princess Kelsey!

Another Fall Fest has come and gone, and I’m still alive and relatively sane. We won! Or rather, Kelsey won. Our nominee was Kelsey, and our theme was “Save Princess Kelsey” (as in Princess Peach, as in Super Mario Bros.). The guys on the floor had a great time going around all week dressed up as characters from the Mario universe. Notable costumes included Bowser, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, a piranha plant and tube, assorted turtles, and several mushrooms. We created several giant chalk murals, wrote Kelsey’s name in field chalk on The Berm, posted flyers everywhere, escorted Kelsey to class with an continuous red carpet rolling device, performed a live side-scroller for air band, and didn’t sleep very much.

One of my favorite memories from the week involves a mushroom costume and two police officers. On Sunday evening, a bunch of us had just finished up a photo shoot for Camera Capers and were hanging around the main door to the floor. For Camera Capers, I had dressed in all white, covered my face in white grease paint, and had a red mushroom hat with white polka dots on my head. Someone that didn’t make it to Camera Capers asked me about my costume. Just as I was proudly proclaiming, “I’m a mushroom!” two police officers, a man and a woman, walked onto the floor and headed down the hall.

After debating what to do for a little while, I decided to be a responsible RA and go see if there was anything I needed to do to help. I found them coming out of one of rooms at the end of the hall and informed them that I was the RA of the floor and asked if they needed any help. I felt that I handled the situation very professionally–as good as any mushroom could have. It went something like this:

Me: Hi, I’m the RA of this floor, is there anything I can help you with?
Male Officer: Can I take you seriously like that?
Me: Sure!
Female Officer: I want to jump on your head!

Photos of the madness that was Fall Fest should be up on the 41 website soon.

Fjord and The Tributaries

Fjord and The Tributaries performance in pictures.

The greatest band in the history of the world made their debut (and probably final performance) on Friday at AcoustiCafe. I did lead vocals, Karen did backup vocals and tambourine, and Ludwhig did guitar. We called ourselves Fjord and The Tributaries, and we covered The Mariner’s Revenge Song by The Decemberists.

I’ve never done any sort of performance singing before, and it was a lot of fun. I only made one mistake where I got lost for a little bit on the lyrics, but Ludwhig helped me get going again pretty quickly. The audience seemed to really enjoy it, and I think we had everyone’s attention when we got to the part about the crew being eaten by the giant whale. :-)

Many thanks to Ludwhig and Karen for letting me do this crazy idea!
