(Another) New Beginning

So I’m in Maryland now, and I just finished up my first day at the new job. It was pretty overwhelming, with lots of paperwork to fill out and such. But at the end of the day, I got my office (well, half an office, but still!) and a nice project to work on.

I still don’t feel like I’ve actually moved here for real, but the one-way ticket I bought for the flight seems to indicate that this is more than temporary. I should probably find an apartment soon. Oh, and a bed. That would be good too.

In other news, Birdstack now exists! Bolt and I put in sevenish months of toil, and it seems to have produced a pretty good birding website. We launched the site just over a week ago, but we’ve already got over 130 users, and by the time you read this post, we’ll probably have more than 16,000 observations reported. If you like birds and want a good way to keep track of what you’ve seen (especially if you’ve seen birds from outside North America), check it out.

Birdstack goes live!

After quite a few late nights, we’ve finally launched Birdstack! It’s an online bird listing web application that makes keeping track observations and sharing them with others easy. The best thing about it is that all observations are stored in a powerful database that is capable of producing many representations of observation data. One example of this is the “stack” I’ve added to my sidebar.

I’m hoping to post some more updates to this blog after I move to Maryland (later this week!) and start birding there. And certainly, I’ll be keeping my Birdstack profile up to date with all my latest observations.
