Summery
I’ve had a pretty busy summer. Since it’s almost over, I suppose I should write something about it.
LETU Graduation and GIAL visit. In May, I flew down to Texas to go the LETU graduation and visit GIAL. It was an awesome weekend. There’s quite nothing like blocking out 4 days with nothing on the agenda other than hanging out with good friends. I miss all you guys!
Nathan and Abby’s wedding. Then, the first week of June (right in the middle of a 3-week work travel marathon), I flew back to Kansas to be in Nathan and Abby’s wedding. The wedding was beautiful; they obviously put a lot of hard work into all the decorations and arrangements. I’ve hardly seen Nathan at all since I left for college, so it was great to be get to hang out with him again for a few days.
Bubbles and Erin’s wedding. Just a month later, it was back to Texas for Bubbles and Erin’s wedding. As a bonus, I got to hang out with a bunch of LETU folks again, too! The wedding was great. Apparently when you combine an artist and an engineer, you get a floating tent that makes it feel sorta like you’re outside. But you’re not. Wild.
Michaela and Courtney’s visit. A mere three days after the wedding, Michaela and Courtney flew up to visit for about a week. In an attempt to cover 50 gazillion miles on foot, we went up to New York City for a couple days and saw a bunch of the sights there (tip: getting lost in the middle of Brooklyn at 1 a.m. = bad idea), traversed pretty much all of downtown Washington, D.C., and even toured some of Maryland’s Eastern Shore area (crabcakes ftw!).
Parents’ visit. A couple days after that, my parents flew up for about a week. Since my mom and I toured D.C. the last time she was here, we decided to stay around the Baltimore area, which was great because I hadn’t really gotten around to exploring much of the city that’s just a couple miles north of me. We visited the Little Italy district, toured some cool ships, and ate some great seafood (more crabcakes!).
Sara’s commissioning. Last weekend, I drove up to Pennsylvania to go to the commissioning service for Sara, one of my friends from GIAL. In less than a week, she’ll be off to Papua New Guinea to start doing language surveying! I gotta say I’m a little jealous that she actually gets to put her linguistic training to use in such a cool way. She put up some pictures of the service on her blog.
So now I guess it’s back to normal life.
